Kent St Baptist Church, Portsmouth
Birth Register Declaration
“Whereas many inconveniences have arisen for want of a Register to authenticate the birth of the
children of Persons dissenting from the established Church Of England, it hath seemed good
to the Congregation of the Baptist denomination meeting on Portsea Common, to have a Register
in their Public Meeting Place, in order to prove the birth of such children whose parents shall
desire it, to be refer’d to on all future occasions.
Therefore this book is appointed for the said purpose by the Congregation aforesaid,
Signed at their Church Meeting in the name and by the request of the same,
this 3rd day of May, 1770”
