Is culture the result of evolution?
"A society's culture consists of its accumulated learned behavior."
In An evolution forum I once took part in, a person said that morality comes
from our genes and the society we live in.
So, how do we know what is right and wrong? If we have evolved, then who has
the ultimate say on what is right and what is wrong in any culture or society?
Children who grew up in Nazi Germany were taught the ideology of the super race
etc and saw nothing wrong in the teachings of Hitler and Nazism until after the war,
when the other side won and they were exposed to a different view of what was
right and what was wrong! If the Nazis had won and the people continued living
in such a culture, then they would not have thought it wrong. Just because the
"victorious " side believed the Nazi ideology and extermination policies was wrong,
does that mean to say it WAS wrong? The same in Pol Pots ideology, or in a
different religious law! Why should the "civilised" west object to the punishments
meted out under Moslem law? What right does one nation or culture have to
complain about the "human rights" of another culture or nation?
So is child "abuse" really abuse? What about rape? why not force yourself
on a woman? Whos is to say its wrong?
The ultimate conclusion / question with evolution is who has the right to
condemn what has "evolved" or been accepted and taught as OK in one culture
compared to what has "evolved" in another culture or society?
Evolution leads to a relative truth - do what you want, thats why society
is breaking down all over the world. Isnt evolution supposed to lead to "higher"
things? But that isnt happening, just chaos!
So how do atheist OR "Christian" evolutionists answer these questions?
Think about the logical conclusions!
The above text caused a storm of objection in the forum!!
