FACTS

The population of Somerset in 1086 was 13, 307 according to the Exeter Survey,
whereas the Exchequer Book gives 13, 764.
This works out at one person per 79 acres - only 6 counties were more densely populated.
Devon & Dorset had one person per 80 and 95 acres respectively.

The 19th Century Censuses were taken on the following dates:
